Kyrgyz Cashmere dehairing facility in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan
Big things continue to unfold in Kyrgyzstan.
In January 2023, we celebrated the grand opening of our new dehairing facility, Kyrgyz Cashmere—a major milestone in our long-term commitment to ethical, high-quality fiber production in Kyrgyzstan. That day marked more than just the return of machinery—it was a moment that reconnected our team, our community, and our mission to something long thought lost. Once a central part of the local economy, textile processing in Kyrgyzstan had all but disappeared. But seeing those machines spin to life again—with our own fibers—was a powerful reminder of what’s possible when intention meets action.
Since that moment, our team has been working tirelessly to refine every part of our process: improving efficiency, deepening relationships with European artisan mills, and expanding our sourcing network. And now, in January 2025, we’ve taken our work one step further: We’ve implemented new dehairing processes specifically for camel fiber—a distinct and exciting addition to our raw material library.
Camel fiber—known for its natural insulation, strength, and warm golden hue—requires a slightly different approach in processing than cashmere. These new adjustments are helping us maintain fiber integrity while preparing to launch something truly special.
For our longtime June Cashmere knitting and making community, this means we can offer an additional fiber to our product line – and it’s coming this spring!
And while our roots remain in the handcrafting world, we’re even more excited to present our fibers–and their stories-to a wider audience looking for highest quality finished goods, so that whether you craft with, wear, or gift our products, all can help impact our work at the new facility and with shepherd families in Kyrgyzstan.
We’ll be sharing more soon about what’s coming next. For now, be sure you are signed up for our weekly newsletter, so you’ll know where to find all our new products.
