The Ronald Charles Beanie, designed by Amy Swanson, is named after her husband because when he saw the hat for the first time, he said that was the hat he wanted to wear.
The beanie is knit in the round from the bottom-up and starts with stockinette stitch to create a rolled brim. A slip stitch pattern in two colors creates a swirl pattern as it alternates with garter stitch sections. Decreases shape the crown while maintaining the pattern. A long tail is threaded through the final stitches to close the top of the hat. Instructions for the swirl stitch pattern are written and charted. The pattern is written for the hat to fit just below the ears, 1920s cloche style (should I have named it the Ronald Charleston?). To get a shorter beanie (on the male model), you simply do fewer repeats of the stitch pattern.
The cloche style is knit in June Cashmere's DK weight Camel yarn in colors Red Geranium and Stormy Blue. The shorter version is knit in June Cashmere's DK weight Camel in colors Stormy Blue and Olive Bark. You can also knit this hat in June Cashmere's DK weight Cashmere.
Pattern is available in either digital download (emailed) or physical hardcopy.
